Video Blackout: SOPA

On January 18th, 2012, many websites including Wikipedia, Reddit, and Boing Boing, will be standing up against SOPA.

As someone who earns a living creating content online, I realize how important it is for these bills to get shut down. While my content doesn’t contain copyright material, under these bills, if ANYONE illegally uploads content to YouTube, my job can, and will be effected! If you have enjoyed even ONE of my videos, this bill also effects YOU! If these bills pass, say goodbye to hundreds of hours of FREE Photoshop training. Let’s make sure it doesn’t.

I am joining the fight by uploading a video that contains a single image. A reminder that if these bills pass, my content, along with millions of others, could be erased from existence. I encourage you to do the same.

These old guys with their long terms are mixing two realities is why they sound so stupid. The "If a pawn shop sells stolen goods they get shut down" scenario just does not apply to internet services. If the net were still run a single website at a time, then they MIGHT have some sort of chance with this. Unfortunately, it is not, and you can't go around fucking our DNS servers/security around because you found A person that posted A link on a service that has a few million customers ( eg. YouTube) LOL. We can't settle for the old trick of " it's only provided for extreme cases" clauses in the laws either. If you still trust the government to govern itself then you have been blind for the last 30 years. Anything that can be exploited for corporate greed will def be done, and this is the whole point. The law was written so that the media groups could smother out any competition at the cost of freedom.

Exactly. Even if YOU don't post copyright material, if someone else does, on the same service (YouTube, etc), the WHOLE site could be shut down. And in my case, there goes my job.

Tolis Mfkr That's the point...most of the internet will look like that if SOPA gets through. If you watch it closer you'll see it says "This video is no longer avaliable due to a SOPA related copyright claim - make sure it doesn't happen to you. AmericanCensorship.org"

From what I get, you could get fucked if anyone else posts copyright-ed stuff?
